The dedicated outer phone pocket has a velcro closure for security when moving around, but this can be fixed up out of the way when constant access is needed, for example doing an inspection. 

Daisy chain tether loops on the outside, a loop inside the main compartment, and another loop in the phone pocket mean that items can be attached safely without risk of dropping.
