January 2012

2011 was a good year, as was 2010 and SAR Products once again has increased it’s customer base around the world. More and more people are realising that our equipment is of top quality and we can give excellent technical advice if and when required and manufacture specials if required. SAR products are being used by the very top professionals in the Military, Police Tactical Units and Fire & Rescue Services and now the Rope Access workers see there is an alternative with quality and versatility to the equipment they are currently using.
The A-B Descender has been taken on by the best in the world for intervention and technical rope work. After 12 months of trials using other top competitors controlled descenders other European Military units and Police have decided on its use. The UK forces have been using if for a number of years along with the SAR Black Hawk and Kite Chest Harness.
The best news is that the Dutch have registered SAR Products as a NATO Manufacturer and Supplier and we now have our own NSCM number. Along with the UK they have awarded our Black Hawk sit harness, Osprey Chest harness and Link Sling with NATO stock numbers. Hopefully there will be more equipment added to these in 2012 as the reports and trials are finalised.

NEW SAR HELMET - Design complete and awaiting first delivery.

December
MREW in very kind and appreciated support of Bolton Mountain Rescue Team.

The team maintains a large amount of rope rescue equipment (obviously !) which though seldom used in anger, none the less is subject to regular replacement to comply with the equipment manufacturers recommendations and standards.
We have recently replaced our stock of 'Lower Ropes,' which are specialist low stretch ropes used for stretcher lowering, stretcher raising and abseiling purposes.
Direct financial support for such specific purposes within mountain rescue is in this particular case available through our national body, Mountain Rescue England and Wales.
We are pleased to both announce and thank MREW for purchasing for the Bolton MRT  2 reels of 200 metres of SAR 11mm Tactical Intervention Low Stretch rope for use within the team.
We would like to thank Richard Terrell, MREW Honorary Equipment Officer for his help with this equipment donation to Bolton MRT and father and son 'combination,' Dave and Lee Allport of SAR Products for their considered advice over the rope type to select.

December
New stretcher type purchased by the team, thanks to two donations, the help of our national body and SAR Products Limited.

Linked to the purchase of our three brand new Land Rover Mountain Rescue Ambulances (due in team service circa March 2011) the team decided to purchase three brand new, latest generation mountain rescue stretchers to equip each vehicle.
The stretcher we selected was the SAR Products (Specialist Access and Rescue Products Limited) Alpine MR Lite (Mountain Rescue) Stretcher.
This is the latest generation development of the already established but no longer manufactured Troll Alphin Mountain Rescue Stretcher, of which the team operates two aged but still effective models. (Alongside our two Bell Mountain Rescue stretchers)
As with the 'original' Troll Alphin stretcher, developed by Dave Allport, the Alpine MR Lite represents the very latest version, much lighter in weight than the Troll Alphin it now 'replaces' within the UK market.
Dave Allport and his son Lee, both of SAR Products (www.sar-products.com)  are also very active members of Oldham MRT, and have put much effort into the design of the SAR Alpine MR Lite stretcher. (The Maritime Coastguard Agency and  a number of UK MRTs are re-equipping with this stretcher type)
Currently all three stretchers are in store at our Base / HQ awaiting our new vehicles, at which point they will be put into team service.
Alongside the three new stretchers we have also purchased one stretcher wheel frame from SAR Products, which when (very easily) fitted to the Alpine MR Lite stretcher enables the fitment of a mountain bike wheel underneath the stretcher, hence on suitable ground a much easier carry for the stretcher bearers.
MREW (Mountain Rescue England and Wales) operate a direct grant system to part fund new stretcher purchases by MRTs, and with thanks to Richard Terrell, MREW Honorary Equipment Officer, the Bolton MRT was kindly granted by MREW £1,000.00 against the purchase of these three stretchers and a single stretcher wheel carry frame.
This left the team with a further £3,000.00 to complete the total purchase cost of the three stretchers and the carry frame. (thanks to SAR Products for their support of Bolton MRT by offering these stretchers at a favourable purchase cost)
Readers may recall that in July 2010, we reported that the Keep Fit Association of Chorley and Leyland (see website 'news' article dated Thursday 22nd July 2010) raised £2,050.00 for the team, which at the time was set against this stretcher purchase.
Our dear friends at the Edgworth Real Ale Festival 2010, have also indicated they would, amongst other team 'wish list' items, also support the purchase of these stretchers.
So essentially with the support of MREW, SAR Products, The Keep Fit Association of Chorley and Leyland, and Edgworth Real Ale Festival 2010, the full purchase costs of these stretchers and wheel frame has been very kindly met.
In the New Year, when our new vehicles are delivered, and prior to placing these stretchers on the vehicles, we will hold a formal handover ceremony of the stretchers, to which we will be inviting the membership of the Keep Fit Association of Chorley and Leyland, and Edgworth Real Ale Festival 2010 committee to attend and formally pass over the stretchers in to team use.

Revised Price List Feb 2012

As we have introduced a few new products we thought it best to revise the current price list.

Unfortuntley some increases can not be absorbed by the company.

Descenders

Due to unforeseen circumstances, SAR has once again had to alter the name of the descender from SCARAB to SARAB and now to the A-B Descender. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers over this problem.

In the end what’s a name between friends! Apparently some people think different. History is littered with companies that have been forced to change their names because somebody else wanted to use it and surreptitiously, registered it worldwide first.

The most recent high profile case, besides the SCARAB, was The World Wrestling Federation attempting to wrestle the name WWF off the World Wildlife Fund. However, they are not very good at wrestling, and they lost. When ballistic missiles first went intercontinental, they were called IBMs, something a certain computer company did not like at all. And when the EU wanted a standardised Car Assessment Program, they tried CAP, NCAP and NCP all of which landed them in hot water. Tagging the word European at the front to become ENCAP gave them a bit of leverage, as the current owners of the name were broke.

There is some good news, however. Mopping Floors International can finally have their abbreviation back, now that the furniture store has folded.
