This is a fig 10 sealed in clear heat shrink. The fig of 10 Knot will on most 10.5mm and 11mm kernmantle ropes hold a static load of 22kN for three minutes as required by EN353-2 back-up safety devices on flexible line.

On other systems a barrel knot is used with a nylon eye for the connector
